Springtails are tiny, wingless insects that are commonly found in moist environments such as soil, leaf litter, and decaying wood. They are named for their ability to jump long distances using a specialized appendage called a furcula. Springtails are important decomposers, feeding on organic matter and helping to break it down. While springtails are not harmful to humans or pets, they can become a nuisance when they invade homes in large numbers. This often occurs during periods of heavy rain or excessive moisture, as springtails are attracted to damp environments. To control springtails, it's important to address moisture issues in and around the home, such as fixing leaks, improving ventilation, and reducing humidity. Sealing entry points and using insecticidal treatments may also be necessary to manage infestations.
